What is Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) and how can it benefit breast cancer patients?

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage is a painless and relaxing unique sequence of reflexology which was developed and researched by Sally Kay BSC(Hons) in the UK whilst working in cancer care. RLD is now available at Reflexology Body Balance in Ferndale, Randburg, South Africa. Call now to book an appointment 011 886 1217.

RLD benefits cancer patients who experience secondary lymphoedema (tissue swelling) of the arm as a result of the removal of lymph nodes causing the failure of lymph drainage in the damaged area. RLD stimulates the lymphatic reflexes on the feet and aids the body to drain excess fluid from the tissue space back into the lymphatic system for elimination by the body.

We have noticed our patients feel less discomfort and there is a reduction in swelling, after several treatments the patients finds they regain strength and mobility in their arm, wrist and hand. In some cases, smaller pressure sleeves are needed. The effects of this treatment can last for months, but this varies from patient to patient.

The above photo is of a patient who had cancer of the vulva and as a result all the groin lymph nodes were surgically removed which resulted in failure of lymphatic drainage from the legs.

Like Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), RLD is a highly effective treatment for; primary lymphoedema anywhere in the body. Our experience is that it is very effective for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, migraines and sinusitis. The advantage is that RLD is totally painfree and the patient feels relaxed during and after the treatment.
