Lymphoedema after Breast Cancer - Reflexology is effective at treating secondary lymphoedema

Updated: Mar 12, 2019

Our experience is that cancer patients suffering with a swollen arm (secondary lymphoedema) are often depressed. They have poor self-esteem, their quality of life is adversely affected as they find their hand, wrist and arm mobility reduces as a result of medical intervention after breast cancer. This is as a result of the removal of lymph nodes which has reduced lymphatic drainage to the affected area causing fluid to accumulate in the tissue space resulting in pain and discomfort.

Our cancer patient treatment protocol for secondary lymphoedema includes Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) which is a painless and relaxing treatment given on the feet. It stimulates the lymphatic system and aids the body in returning fluid from the tissue space to the lymphatic system for elimination by the body thus reducing arm swelling. Our holistic approach to patient management includes educating our patients on the do’s and don’ts regarding the compromised arm plus some self-help advice.

RLD is now available in Ferndale, Randburg. Call now and book an appointment 011 886 1217 with a qualified Therapeutic Reflexologist at Reflexology Body Balance.

Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD), a multi-award winning treatment is recommended for secondary lymphoedema.
