How can you boost your immune system during Covid-19

Boosting your immune system has never been more important than now, it is our body's first defense mechanism to maintaining good health.

While the nation is in lockdown and boredom sets in many of us are baking more than ever before and as a result we are over indulging in baked goods and refined carbohydrates at a time when these types of foods should be limited.

Many of us are cash strapped putting expensive supplements out of reach. However, making a few simple food swaps to your diet by introducing foods like fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds and wholegrains rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which are necessary to support our immune system naturally. (Note. If you're on a special diet for health reasons always check with your doctor before making any dietary changes).

4 ways to support and boost your immune system...

1. Good food choices

Vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers, kale and tomatoes

Fruit: apples, lemons, kiwi, berries and pawpaw

Nuts: almonds, walnuts, macadamia nuts and brazil nuts

2. Limit these foods as much as possible; fried food, baked goods, white bread, pasta, chips, sugar, fructose, corn syrup, soda, fruit juices, cold meats etc.

3. Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (RLD) stimulates the lymphatic system and thus improves our immune system. Feedback from patients is; they don't get sick as often as they used to, if they do get sick they get better a lot quicker. We are temporarily closed due to Covid-19 lockdown and, in keeping with the AHPCSA guidelines to safeguarding patients and practitioners we can only see patients in an emergency.

4. Supplements to boost your immune system should be taken alongside a balanced diet.
